“Astoundingly Good”

You don’t go to Cortez, Colorado expecting to get the best Thai food of your life, but that’s what happened to us! This place may be modest in appearance, but is a powerhouse of cuisine.

Whoever manages this place knows what they are doing. The staff functioned beautifully as a team. They made the dining experience a pleasure, but it was the food that was the star of the show. We started with the Por Pia Sod (Thai fresh rolls) that arrived in eight segments, two of which were festooned with red lettuce flourishes atop a rich peanut sauce in a playful display. They had happily swapped out tofu in my wife’s roll for the standard shrimp. Both were screamingly fresh, perfect for sopping up the rich sauce.

My wife had an excellent Tom Yum soup, while I took the waitress’s suggestion and had the Ga Prow Ped, a stir-fried roasted duck with vegetables and basil in a chili-garlic special sauce. “Special” undersells it. “Ambrosial” would be better.

This was the best expression of Thai cuisine that I have experienced, and that includes visits to places like the legendary Pok-Pok. I don’t know if this restaurant would make worthwhile a visit to Cortz, but it sure made a visit to Cortez wothwhile for these travelers.
